Please write letter to Sen.Jim Web(e-mail:Marta_McLellanRoss@webb.senate.gov)

Dear Sen. Webb,

This is no time for you to be considering lifting US sanctions against Burma, while a US citizen Kyaw Zaw Lwin (Nyi Nyi Aung) is in prison in Burma, has been tortured and false charges have been made against him. What do you intend to do about the plight of Kyaw Zaw Lwin and other Burmese political prisoners?

We hope you will fly to Burma as you did for John Yettaw and secure the release of Kyaw Zaw Lwin, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and over 2000 political prisoners.

Sincerely,
Your name

Presented by KOMAS

Admission Free but with conditions, please refer below*

Back for its sixth edition, the annual KOMAS Freedom Film Festival will be screening yet another harvest of local and international documentary feature and short films dealing with the topic of human rights, social and environmental justice. Held in four cities this year – KL, Penang, Kuching and Johor Bharu – FFF adopts the themes encompassed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) which express our aspirations for genuine justice, peace, equality and democracy. Aside from screenings, FFF will also be presenting workshops, talks and discussions on issues explored in the documentaries. Most of the screenings will include Q&A sessions with the filmmakers.

Among the highlights of this year’s FFF includes the premiere of the three winning documentaries of FFF2009’s Justin Louis Award. This year the winners are “Al-Fatehah Memali” by Rahmat Haron, “No Silver Lining: The Perak Crisis” by The S-ploited, and “Kayuh” by Soh Sook Hwa. The winners have been selected by panel of judges Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan, Haris Ibrahim, Fiona Lawson-Baker and Anna Har. Don’t forget to come for the premiere night screening and show your support for these talented filmmakers and their moving documents.

JIHAD FOR LOVE
by Parvez Sharma
2008 | 80 mins | Arabic/Urdu/French etc. with English & Bahasa Malaysia subtitles
The concept of ‘jihad’ is often associated with "war". But Jihad also has deeper meanings. In its literal sense, it means ‘struggle’, or ‘to strive in the path of God’. In this documentary, we meet individuals caught in a personal, painful struggle for love, even as they strive with their religious faiths. Such is the struggle of those who are both homosexual and Muslim, whose pursuit of love brings them into conflict with their countries, families, and even themselves. Filmed in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, Turkey, India and South Africa, this documentary takes us into the reality of those who live with this struggle, which is still considered a taboo by many and rarely documented. The different perspectives presented here, however, appeal for an atmosphere of healthy debate and dialogue often missing from conversations about this issue.Awards: MIX BRASIL (Best Documentary), Canada Nation Film Festival (Best Documentary), India Tri-Continental Film Festival (Best Film).
